Cloud integration will become challenge for security vendors (eWeek)

A new report from Forrester Research says that the SaaS security market will see remarkable growth over the next five years. According to this eWeek article, cloud-based security tools—not to be confused with tools that secure cloud-based software and data— will become a new market unto itself. The article suggests, though, that many security vendors still do not understand the integration demands that must be met to tailor their product for distribution as as a service.

Microsoft SharePoint 2010 integrates with Yammer, though questions remain (ZDNet)

Microsoft recently announced the integration of SharePoint 2010 with social networking suite Yammer. Whether or not the integration will be successful, though, seems to rest on winning over disillusioned SharePoint users. This article questions whether SharePoint—even with Yammer—is a sufficiently capable social collaboration tool for the enterprise.

VMware: Cloud applications require automation (InformationWeek)

The author of this InformationWeek article spoke recently with Spring founder Rod Johnson about the direction of cloud applications. Johnson said that cloud apps will require more automation and that new lightweight development frameworks will help that goal be achieved.

Agile ALM SaaS tools finding a place in cloud computing

In the broad world of IT, agility is generally a good thing. When it comes to quality assurance and application lifecycle management, though, “agile” has a specific meaning.

Simply put, agile development describes a development practice in which individual components of an application are built, tested, and implemented as each component is completed, rather than waiting until after the entire application is completed to implement and make necessary changes.

The benefits of such a methodology are many. From an integration standpoint, it means that as new applications are built or acquired an agile development team can integrate its own application in a step-wise manner, rather than having to do the integration work after their new application’s unveiling.
